The Immune System, referred to as Wei Qi in energetic medicine, is a vital component to physiology and health. The strength of one’s Wei Qi is critical for protection from diseases originating internally and externally. When Wei Qi is weak, pathogens from the environment - including those of a bacterial or viral nature - can easily penetrate. Alternatively, when the individual’s Wei Qi is strong, these external pathogens cannot enter the body, and if they do, the body can easily rid itself of them.

Goals and Outlines
At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the physiology and development of Wei Qi as an acquired energy in patients.
  • Implement techniques to build Wei Qi and prevent external pathogen invasion.
  • Describe the signs and symptoms of external pathogen invasion at each stage of its progression.
  • Apply effective treatments at each stage of the penetration of wind cold and wind heat.
  • Compare symptoms of the common cold, flu, bronchitis and pneumonia with the appropriate energetic diagnosis and treatment.

    Presenter:

Welcome to part 3 of the acupuncture point combination series, which takes you on a journey through the Five Elements (Wǔ Xíng). These elements are typically not taught thoroughly at Chinese medicine institutions (unless it is a Five Elements school) and so it became clear to me that I needed to write a course that could access as many students and practitioners of our art as possible.

    Goals and Outlines

At the end of part 3 of the Acupuncture Point Combination webinar series participants will:

  • Be proficient in each of the Five Elements so that they can adequately use the system to aid them in their clinic; specifically in the Four Cycles of Shēng/Generating, Kè/Controlling, Chéng/Overacting and Wǔ/Insulting.
  • Be more aware of the value associated with the Five Element point categories, including the Five Shū/Transporting points, Wǔ Xíng points, Horary points/Chinese Clock, Mother and Child points.
  • Have a greater insight into the importance of acupuncture point combinations.
  • Feel like they now have the tools to construct their own acupuncture point combinations.
  • Have been taken through Chinese medicine concepts that are new to them; something they had forgotten they knew and are therefore reminded of again; or for consolidating knowledge already known.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine and metabolic disorder characterized by excessive androgen secretion and is linked with obesity, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes, and affects up to 17% of women in reproductive age. We have also demonstrated that women with PCOS have epigenetic and transcriptional changes in skeletal muscle and adipose tissue relevant for development of disease3,4.

    Goals and Outlines

  • What is polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)?
  • Pathophysiology of PCOS
  • Environmental, epigenetic and genetic mechanisms
  • Developmental programming of disease
  • Transgenerational transmission of PCOS
  • Epigenetic changes in adipose tissue and skeletal muscle in women with PCOS
  • Effect of acupuncture on insulin resistance and epigenetic and transcriptional changes in adipose tissue and skeletal muscle
  • Evaluate and contextualise the issues with acupuncture research relating to dosage and trial design.
  • Analyse the results of a study investigating how specialist acupuncture and TCM practitioners treat women with PCOS in their clinics – and how these new findings compare with the existing literature.
  • Learn how these insights from the coalface can impact on clinical practice and drive future research design.
  • Ongoing acupuncture research in the group

Ever since IVF (and especially ICSI) was introduced to the world stage, it immediately became the “go to” procedure to help infertile couples. This occurred without scientific validation of its safety or formal study of its cost-effectiveness or medical “value.” Significant research has since been published that compares classical treatments for male infertility, including medical therapy, lifestyle and diet changes, varicocele repair, vasectomy reversal and ejaculatory duct resection, to assisted reproduction (including IUI).

    Goals and Outlines

  • Explain the difference between cost-effectiveness and decision modeling analyses to assess fertility treatments
  • Describe 3 classical surgical treatments offered for male infertility
  • Define how the “shift of care” argument applies male infertility treatment
  • Outline 3 ways that diet and lifestyle changes improve natural fertility
  • This lecture intends to make therapists aware of epigenetics and the importance of Chinese Medicine to treat epigenetic issues causing male factor infertility.

The Complexity, Interplay and Sophistication of the Drivers of Endometriosisimmediately after purchasefor 2 years
    California
    Category 1
    Presenter:

Endometriosis is a complicated chronic inflammatory condition. When patients are successful at conceiving, some are able to improve their endometriosis whilst others find it worsens and can develop into adenomyosis. Both conditions require a few key etiological considerations for treatment that reflect the sophistication and complexity of the conditions. Endometriosis and adenomyosis are both multifactorial and comprehensive by nature and are often simplified by clinicians which produce poor outcomes and reduced treatment success.

    Goals and Outlines

  • Participants will understand the role of the immune system and infective drivers in both the development and prevention of adenomyosis and endometriosis
  • Participants will understand the interrelationship of the immune system and infective drivers and their roles in inter-generational health outcomes
  • Participants will understand the inflammatory nature of the conditions and the subsequent impact to the peritoneal fluid, epigenetic drivers and methylation corruption
  • Participants will acquire strategic and sophisticated treatment strategies to effectively manage their patients’ health and prevent recurrence or progression of these diseases

    Presenter:

After 15 years of intensive and broad-based research, TCM has become a staple of Assisted Reproductive Technology care plans. As is true in Western Medicine research, TCM research is not without its controversies.

In this lecture, Dr. Magarelli will explore other more far-reaching integrative medicine concepts to further the bond that has developed between these two modalities with the shared goal of One Healthy Baby™.

    Goals and Outlines

  • Oocyte physiology will be used as a backdrop for participant understanding of the principals involved in metabolomics.
  • Integration of basic tenets of TCM with the pathophysiology of microenvironments will be discussed and participants will be lead down an algorithm to provide healing modalities to change reproductive outcomes in a positive way.
  • Substantive discussions regarding present and future areas of research in integrative metabolomics will act as a challenge for participants to collaborate in projects

Is Her Time Up? Understanding the Oocyte and the Factors that Mediate Reproductive Competence - POI and Infertilityimmediately after purchasefor 2 years
    California
    Category 1
    Presenter:

The oocyte is most influenced by a woman’s maternal grandmother’s health and wellbeing than any other variable in her lifetime – known as the trigenerational effect.

In a clinical context when we are presented with a woman diagnosed with oocyte aging or premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) we are given a clinical conundrum that challenges our belief in current literature, ethical framework of practice and an awareness that some patients recover from oopause to resume cycling normally. How is this so and how can we optimise this for all women?

    Goals and Outlines

  • Participants will understand the role of genetics and epigenetic drivers in reproductive competence and oocyte health
  • Participants will understand role of mitochondrial health in improving oocyte maturation and receptivity to fertility and appropriate treatment strategies to achieve these goals
  • Participants will acquire strategic and optimal treatment strategies to effectively support their patients’ health and improve reproductive competence, fertility outcomes and oocyte viability
