Sleep is a necessity in life, yet sleep disturbances, in particular insomnia, have been steadily increasing worldwide, affecting almost 40% of the population and disturbingly a large proportion of children, due primarily to our modern lifestyle.

This webinar will examine the Western and Chinese concepts about sleep. The Chinese energetics and in particular the role of the internal synchronizers, the “Extraordinary” vessels will be emphasized, as well as the diagnosis and treatment protocols for the various sleep disorders.

Goals and Outlines

  • Explore the Western physiology of sleep and dreams; sleep disorders
  • Understand the health consequences of insomnia
  • Analyze the Chinese energetics of sleep; sleep organization and the “Extraordinary” vessels; the role of substances (Qi, Blood, Yin …) in sleep; and the role of the mind and emotions in sleeping disorders

    In these troubled times, many of our patients are complaining of distressing psycho-emotional symptoms, even more than physical pains and discomforts.
    The fear, insecurity and repeated disappointments are taking a heavy toll on the general population as witnessed by the increase in domestic violence, psychiatric complaints, psychotic episodes and suicides.

    Appropriate acupuncture strategies can be of a great support in changing the mental attitudes and for helping to cope with these transitional periods.
