Course Contents: 

In this class you will learn how to identify trauma in clients, how trauma can manifest in their lives and the impact that TCM can have on resolving PTSD and CPTSD. We will discuss the causes of trauma and how trauma can manifest in people’s lives. We will discuss how the stages of trauma recovery can be mapped out by the Five Elements, or the Five Phases. You will learn effective treatment strategies, as well as acupuncture points and some herbal formulas to use in your practice.

Goals and Outlines

  • For attendees to learn what causes trauma, what the effects are on the mind and body, and how to confidently treat patients with diagnoses of PTSD and CPTSD
  • To identify physical characteristics that indicate trauma
  • To understand the role of Chinese Medicine in treating people with trauma – possible diagnoses and point combinations, as well as herbal medicines
  • To learn how each of the Five Elements/Five Phases represents a phase of healing and reintegration into wholeness

    Jen Bowers is an Advanced Practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine, with over 5000 hours of clinical training. Jen has a B.Sc. in Biology from Dalhousie University and she specializes in reproductive health and fertility for both men and women. It is her belief that Chinese medicine and Western medicine go hand-in-hand to create healthy pregnancies that result in healthy babies. Jen has worked for the past fifteen years as a sexual health educator at Planned Parenthood, and as an advocate for women’s health. She is also a clinical supervisor at the Institute of Traditional Medicine.
