Course Contents: 
This course will introduce the Chinese Medicine Practitioner to the concept of Burnout Syndrome, and to the twelve-stage burnout cycle theorized by psychologist Herbert Freudenberger and Gail North. We will examine other leading theories of Burnout syndrome and utilize scientifically accepted burnout inventory tools to best assess patients as to their level of burnout.

1. Understand the historical development of burnout syndrome as a medical diagnosis.
2. To identify the signs of possible Burnout Syndrome using Freudenberger’s Twelve Stage Burnout Cycle.
3. To become familiar with commonly used Burnout Inventories and how to use them in a Chinese Medicine setting.
4. Learn the first steps in preventing all Burnout Syndrome using Conscious ‘Self-Awareness inventories in a clinical practice (VIA reports, Birkman analysis).
5. How to accurately make a differential diagnosis of Burnout Syndrome using Chinese Medicine diagnostic methods.
6. Learn mechanisms of how acupuncture and Chinese Medicine can treat Burnout Syndrome effectively utilizing Luo points, divergent meridians, and extraordinary vessels.
7. To administer Acupuncture point combinations for each phase of Burnout Syndrome.
8. To prescribe herbal formulas and dietary therapies, when necessary for burnout recovery.
9. To differentiate between Burnout Syndrome, Stress, and Depression.
10. Identify 5 resources to assist in recovery from Burnout, Compassion Fatigue and Secondary Post-Traumatic Stress and when to refer out.
