Program Description
Topics to be presented are the heavy hitters of treating pregnancy concerns - morning sickness, miscarriage, and Cervical ripening and labor induction.

Morning Sickness: Why does this condition exist? This presentation will include lifestyle advice, acupuncture points including a Master Tung technique, the use of moxa, and herbal advice.

Miscarriage: Why is this condition so frequent in today’s culture? Lifestyle advice, acupuncture points, moxa, and herbal formulas will be covered in this discussion.

Goals and Outlines

  • Participants will be able to quickly reduce the unwelcome symptoms of morning sickness and give advice that allows the woman how to best manage her symptoms.
  • Participants will be able to assess the differences between an active miscarriage and one that is threatening, use acupuncture points, moxa, and herbal formulas.
  • A discussion of cervical ripening and induction will provide practitioners with two forms of helping women go into labor within the allopathic framework of “due dates”, thus avoiding the use of pharmaceuticals and surgical intervention.

    Raven Lang
    Raven Lang was one of the first homebirth midwives in California. In 1970 she founded the Santa Cruz Birth Center, the first birth center in North America. Two years and fifty births later she wrote Birth Book. In 1972 Raven immigrated to British Columbia, where she helped organize and run the first birth center in B.C. Six years later, she returned to California and founded the Institute of Feminine Arts, the first non-medical school for midwifery in North America.
