This course will cover the third trimester from 32 weeks through the labor, birth, and the immediate postpartum period. We will learn about common third-trimester complications, including breech presentation, placental issues, low amniotic fluid index, IUGR, preeclampsia, and edema. We will then discuss labor preparation from a CM perspective, including acupuncture, herbs, and mindset to help support labor's natural and spontaneous onset. This module will offer a deep dive into the anatomy and physiology of childbirth and detailed instruction on the medical induction of labor, methods, medications used, and the impact on mother and baby. Current research and data on medical induction will be discussed. We will cover the role of the CM practitioner in the labor and delivery setting, our scope of practice, and how acupuncture and other modalities can support labor, birth, and the immediate postpartum period.
