In this course, you will learn an innovative, holistic model for evaluating where egg-quality issues are rooted and how to simply, and effectively begin to treat them using not only acupuncture but nutritional supplements, dietary counseling, and herbal medicine.

The diagnostic model is based on an integrative vision developed over 11 years of clinical practice and is a blend of Chinese Medicine, Medical Qigong, Taoist Alchemy, and Functional Endocrinology. The basics of this model will be discussed, along with fundamental treatment strategies and case studies.

Objectives

  1. Understand the concept of five-elements as it relates to endocrinology.
  2. Learn how to detect distal root pathologies that have severe impacts on oocyte quality
  3. Learn the five core factors of the creation of healthy eggs
  4. Learn how to use what you already know in TCM to give you instant expertise in the functional relationships described within Functional Medicine
  5. Learn efficient, easy-to-prescribe supplement regimens that correct imbalance very quickly – along with herbal strategies using classical formulas

Outline
Five-Element Functional Medicine

  1. What Is It?
  2. Core principles for 5efm
  3. Five Element Functional Areas
  4. Five Elements naturally and elegantly encompass all those “axes” that biomedicine is just beginning to uncover and understand
  5. In Five Element Functional Medicine we inherently understand that all things exist on a SPECTRUM – we call this CONSTITUTION
  6. In 5efm we do not treat our patients as NUMBERS – we treat them as HEALERS
  7. Why Is It Important?
  8. How Do You Get Started Doing It?

Egg Quality

  1. What Is Egg Quality?
  2. How Are Quality Eggs Made?
  3. What “messes them up”?
  4. In essence, all of the above detrimental factors are due to STRESS
  5. Where does the stress come from?
  6. The age factor
  7. So, how do we improve egg quality

Taoist Concepts of Shen, Qi, Jing and their importance to Egg Quality

  1. Shen – Spirit
  2. Qi - Functional Energy
  3. Jing - Tissue and Vital Substances
  4. Blood – Why It’s Special

The Concept of Signal Interference

  1. Yuan/Acquired Shen
  2. Yuan/Acquired Qi
  3. Yuan/Acquired Jing
  4. How clear is Original vs. Acquired signal?
  5. Common influencers of signal (amplification or interference)

Five Element Core Map – Understanding CORE Functional Patterns That Influence Life Quality (hence Egg Quality)

  1. A Deeper Concept of Five Element As A “Mind-Map Of Nature”
  2. Water Element
  3. Wood Element
  4. Fire Element
  5. Earth Element
  6. Metal Element

Lunch Influence of Five Element Functional Spheres on Ovarian Environment and Egg Quality

  1. Water - Kidney - Adrenal Sphere
  2. Wood - Liver - Hepatic Sphere
  3. Fire - Heart - Thyroid/Circulatory Sphere
  4. Earth - Spleen - Metabolic Sphere
  5. Metal - Lungs - Gut/Immune Sphere

Understanding and Identifying Patterns from a Five-Element Functional Perspective

  1. Water - Kidney - Adrenal Sphere
  2. Wood - Liver - Hepatic Sphere
  3. Fire - Heart - Thyroid/Circulatory Sphere
  4. Earth - Spleen - Metabolic Sphere
  5. Metal - Lungs - Gut/Immune Sphere

Treating and Correcting Pathology Using TCM Concepts With Modern Nutraceuticals

  1. Water - Kidney - Adrenal Sphere
  2. Wood - Liver - Hepatic Sphere
  3. Fire - Heart - Thyroid/Circulatory Sphere

Chris Axelrad is a specialist in hormonal, mind-body, and reproductive wellness using Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Therapeutic Nutrition, and Mind-Body Coaching. After graduating from Bellaire High School in Houston, he studied jazz performance at the University of North Texas. He then completed a successful 10-year career as a software developer before embarking on his journey as an Acupuncturist.

Mr. Axelrad is the former President of the American Board of Oriental Reproductive Medicine (ABORM), a specialty board dedicated to excellence in holistic fertility care. He is certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) in Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, and Chinese Bodywork. After receiving his Master's Degree in Oriental Medicine in 2003, Mr. Axelrad completed extensive graduate and post-graduate studies not only in Traditional Chinese Medicine, but also Western endocrinology, psychoneuroimmunology, neuroendocrinology, nutrition, mind-body disciplines, and interpretation of lab results.

His father and brother are both Urologists (MDs), and he takes pride in being from a family steeped in medical tradition. Two of his great uncles were physicians, one uncle was a well-respected Cardiologist, another is a currently practicing Psychiatrist in the Houston area. He brings to his practice a deep understanding of the natural, holistic principles of Chinese Medicine, and an equally deep respect for the modern system of medicine practiced by his forebears. It is this balance that makes him uniquely qualified as a practitioner of the highest quality.

Chris’ philosophy is that the modern age is calling all of us to integrate and cross-pollinate medical traditions to create a new, more advanced form of medicine for the next generation. To support this vision, he is constantly working to understand the parallels between TCM and Western biological models, to discover new ways to apply Western nutritional concepts to TCM and vice versa, and novel ways to communicate holistic medical concepts to a Western-minded public.

Chris sees himself primarily as a coach and teacher, with the goal of helping his patients to rediscover and awaken the natural healing intelligence that often lies dormant or obstructed within.

Mr. Axelrad maintains a busy full-time practice in Houston, Texas. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, and continues to play club dates and private parties with several local jazz and pop groups.
