Chinese and Western herb and drug interaction risks can be diminished, and potentials for a patient's therapeutic goals optimized with strategic inter-professional communication. We will explore several professional nexus and provide participants with skills for successful navigation of collaborative therapeutic treatment strategies for patient centered outcomes. This course is being taught by an M.D and Licensed Acupuncturist, both herbalists, who collaborate on cases together and have over 35 years combined experience with interprofessional communication involving herb drug interactions.
Goals & Objectives
• Participants have resources for collaborative integrative treatment plans.
• Participants will have resources for research known and possible risks of drug-herb interactions.
• Participants will develop skills for coaching patients in discussing herbal therapy with their other practitioners.
• Participants will see examples of best practices for documentation, informed consent, and other forms for communicating with allied practitioners.
Benjamin co-founded Five Flavors Herbs to provide his community with exceptional herbal formulas supported by his years of clinical experience. Along with his unwavering dedication to crafting high-quality herbal extracts, Benjamin is acclaimed for his work as an herbalist, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner, and licensed acupuncturist. Benjamin offers integrative herbal consultations through Paeonia Integrative Medicine. In his free time, you’ll find Benjamin cooking and studying music.
Board certified in Internal Medicine, Ingrid has been studying, teaching, and practicing herbal medicine and nutrition for nearly 20 years. In addition to her leadership role at Five Flavors Herbs, Ingrid works as a primary care physician in a rural community health center. Ingrid is also an avid cook, yoga practitioner, gardener, and Spanish language enthusiast.
