In this webinar, Lorie Dechar will share her research into the psycho-emotional function and spiritual potency of the po soul.
She will discuss the original Taoist ideas about this yin aspect of the spirits and their mythical relationship to Xi Wang Mu, the mysterious dark goddess of the Taoist pantheon. We will follow the po’s transformation from a primary yin aspect of the divine – the Moon Soul – to a problematic demonic entity as China’s early shamanic earth-based spirituality was increasingly influenced by patriarchal, solar attitudes. The focus of the talk will be on the po soul’s role as transmitter of the deep wisdom of the body. We will address the relationship of the seven po to addiction as well as to ancestral inheritances and the mother's essences.
Clinical issues such as the transmission and storage of trauma memory as well as psychosomatic symptomology will be discussed from the viewpoint of traditional Chinese medicine, modern Western neuro-science, Western archetypal psychology and alchemy.
By the end of the course, participants will have:
- a theoretical understanding of the seven po from the viewpoint of Taoist mythology and philosophy;
- an understanding of the function of the po from the viewpoint of traditional Chinese medicine and its overall relationship to wushen, the Five Spirits;
- an ability to recognize symptoms related to the po soul;
- and, clinical tools, including points, acupuncture protocols, essential oils, flower essences and qigong practices that can be used in clinical practice to treat po-related symptoms.
