- Presented by Mark H. Ratner, MD - Chief Science Officer Theralogix, LLC

Webinar REPLAY - available for a limited time. Watch now:

Insulin resistance plays an important role in the metabolic and reproductive effects of PCOS.
This webinar will explore the pathophysiology of PCOS, the underlying mechanism of insulin resistance in PCOS, and the clinical studies which confirm the ability of inositols to correct both metabolic and reproductive PCOS endpoints.

Objectives:
1. Understand the metabolic and reproductive effects of PCOS
2. Understand how insulin resistance creates those effects
3. Understand the role of inositols in the action of insulin
4. Become familiar with the use of inositol supplementation to improve insulin sensitivity in PCOS patients

Quick message from Dr Mark Ratner, MD follwoing the webinar's Q&A:

During the webinar, one of the viewers forwarded a “FAQs about COVID-19” entry from Andrew Weil’s Center for Integrative Medicine.

Mark H. Ratner

The Weil Center advised that at the onset of a COVID-19 infection, vitamin D supplementation should be withheld, because “vitamin D can activate the specific inflammation pathway and inflammatory molecule, IL-1B” and could potentially worsen cytokine storm. Unfortunately, the Weil response did not include any reference for that claim, which appears to be flatly untrue. In fact, a thorough review of the published studies reveals that exactly the opposite is true. Increased vitamin D levels are associated with decreased IL-1B production.

Multiple published studies (Machura, 2018; Kashari, 2018; Tiwari, 2019) have confirmed this. In addition, daily supplementation with vitamin D works slowly, and can take up to two months to raise an individual’s 25(OH)D level into the normal range. Similarly, stopping the daily use of a vitamin D supplement will NOT cause the 25(OH)D level to suddenly drop – the decrease will happen very slowly, over the course of 1-2 months. So – even if higher 25(OH)D levels DID cause increased production of IL-1B (which it doesn’t), stopping vitamin D supplementation at the onset of a COVID infection would have little impact on 25(OH)D levels in the following weeks.

Theralogix LLC

Theralogix shares a common value with the thousands of healthcare providers and consumers that we serve each and every day. In a world of endless choices, high-quality, research-based nutritional supplements must stand out and provide the confidence that healthcare providers and consumers have come to expect.

When Theralogix was established in 2002, there was a growing awareness that nutritional supplements, proper nutrition, and a healthy lifestyle all play important roles in overall health and well-being. At that time, there was also a growing awareness of many companies on the market who were producing less-than-trustworthy products. With very little oversight, it was difficult for our founders - a group of well-renowned, industry-leading physicians and scientists - to find products they felt comfortable recommending to their patients, families, and friends. From Day 1, our guiding principles have been to only produce formulations based upon high-quality scientific research and manufacture products with the highest verifiable quality.

Over 15 years and 30 products later, thousands of healthcare providers and patients have come to trust Theralogix nutritional supplements across a variety of healthcare specialties, including fertility, women's health, urology, rheumatology and general health. Theralogix remains committed to following the science where ever it leads, and will continue to provide affordable products that are evidence-based, content-certified and always best in class.
